PURIM EVENING

Saturday, February 27, 2010
7 p.m.

Northern Hills Synagogue and Congregation Ohav Shalom members celebrated Purim together at Northern Hills Synagogue on Saturday evening. Most of the participants were dressed in costumes and some even brought their own noise-makers. After Ma'ariv, the Megillah (Book of Esther) was read by members of both synagogues. Sonia Milrod operated an illustrated PowerPoint presentation, which included an animated grogger to signal the audience when to make noise. The name of Haman was appropriately blotted out to great fanfare! Afterward. everyone went into the Social Hall for refreshments, which including a variety of Hamantashen, salty snacks, wine, grape juice and liquors.

At 8:45 p.m., Tracy Weisberger, Director of Programing at NHS, introduced a cast of NHS members who enacted a "Purim Murder Mystery" for the adults, while the children went into the Youth Lounge to watch a movie. The suspects were portrayed by Rabbi Barnard, Joyce Leahr, Judy Schechter, and Claire, Matt and Ben Lee.
