NHS Sisterhood Paid-Up Membership Brunch "Dressed for the Occasion" Presented by Bette Sherman Sunday, October 17, 2010 10:00 a.m. NHS Sisterhood held its first meeting of the new season with the annual Paid-Up Membership Brunch on Sunday morning, October 17th. The buffet brunch, free to paid-up members, included delicious broccoli quiche, croissants, fresh fruit cocktails and vegetables, and assorted coffee cakes and danish rolls. The adorable centerpieces on the tables were created by Anne Yosafat. Sisterhood Co-Presidents Sandra Spitz and Bobbi Handwerger held a brief sisterhood business and announcements, and then guest speaker Bette Sherman presented a unique fashion show and PowerPoint history of the American fashion industry called "Dressed for the Occasion," displaying selections from her extensive collection of vintage clothing and accessories. Char Glassman, a friend of Bette, modeled five different outfits representing a variety of styles from different eras, aided by wardrobe assistant Natalie Ibold. Bette supplemented the fashion show with PowerPoint photos of period clothing, lingerie, corsets, wraps and shoes. Bette also demonstrated some of the antique items on her display, like hair net packaging, a mirrored fan and beautiful decorative makeup tins. Sisterhood members were enthralled by the presentation of a century of fashion history. Many items from Bette's collection have been purchased or rented for use by Hollywood productions in historical dramas like "Boardwalk Empire", currently being shown on HBO.
